Indies of the Week: Autumn's Eve/Peeptoad Hollow - October 30, 2008

The first thing that you will notice about Autumn’s Eve is their absolutely gorgeous website. Don’t miss this one. It’s quite lovely. Owner Cheryl Misener has a background in interior design & the website reflects her talented eye for beauty.

Autumn’s Eve had its beginnings back in 1972 when Cheryl’s daughter was born with allergies & sensitivities. This caused Cheryl to have to come up with solutions that would be healthy for her daughter. She began making her own soap and she ended up preferring her own products. The business has grown from there. You’ll notice different categories of soap on their website from Classic Soaps to Exotic Soaps to Special Needs soaps. If you are dealing with skin allergies, I can assure you that you will find the right product at Autumn’s Eve. Besides soaps, shoppers will find a variety of other body products. I loved all of Cheryl’s soaps…especially the fragrant Orange Patchouli.

One unique line at Autumn’s Eve is called Posh Pig. According to Cheryl, “Posh Pig is an idea inspired by “Toto” my dear potbelly pig, who was my companion until he passed over the Rainbow Bridge in November 2003. I have since become involved in the rescue of these intelligent, sensitive creatures. I work with my local shelter, nonprofit organizations and sanctuaries to educate and re-home these wonderful animals. Posh Pig is a tribute to my dear pet, all those who I work with in rescue, and to anyone with the love of their own pet. Sales of Posh Pig products benefit rescue groups and sanctuaries.”

We’re candle crazy this week & we have another fab shop that has wonderful soy wax candles. Peeptoad Hollow is another excellent contender in the candle market. I know that it’s much easier to purchase those mass market brands, but I think that once you try a candle from these small businesses, you’ll never go back. Not to mention the superior customer service.

Soy is wonderful because it’s an environmentally friendly ingredient. Soy candles are clean burning & burn slower making your candle last longer. I remember being impressed the very first time that I burned a soy candle & I still love them. Peeptoad Hollow has very strongly scented candles that burned perfectly and they have such a lovely aesthetic appeal. The square shaped glass jars have whimsical labeling that I just adore.

The scent choices that we burned were excellent and these candles can easily scent a large room. Cranberry Cobbler was a great choice for the cooler weather, Dreamy Buttercream smells like you have something baking in the oven (and the scent is very soothing) and Snowfall is definitely going to be a winter favorite. Other choices include Apple Pie, Banana Nut Bread, Jazzy Java & New England Christmas. You can find scent descriptions here.

Head on over and visit with Peeptoad Hollow. They have a terrific points program just like the big guys. Every time you shop, you rack up points. 100 points will give you a coupon and points members will receive a periodic newsletter with special sales & special double point promotions.
