Guest Quarters - Christie Wanlass - May 1, 2008This week, we are welcoming Christie Wanlass as our guest writer. Christie is the owner of Bath Desserts which we featured back in January. It seems like everyone is into the environment lately and Christie gives readers some great information on hemp. Hemp is one of the most “green” ingredients available, as it does not require pesticides, flourishes almost anywhere on marginal soil, prevents soil erosion, and can be grown on the same land year after year. Hemp is one the earth’s most significant replenishable resources. It can take from fifty to five hundred years to grow back trees that are cut down to make paper while hemp can be grown in as little as one hundred days, and can yield four times more paper over a twenty year period. Here at Bath Desserts, we have chosen to create natural products infused with the rejuvenating powers of hemp seed oil. We have learned that what’s good for your heart is also good for your skin! In cosmetic testing, essential fatty acids have been proven to play a preventive role in the skin aging process. The skin forms a protective barrier which regulates moisture loss from the body. Essential fatty acids, especially omega-6 and gamma linoleic acid protect, are the “barrier function” of cell membranes. Skin that is dry and has loss of elasticity is deficient in these nutrients. The polyunsaturated fatty acids in hemp seed oil are helpful in preventing skin dryness and assist in restoring damaged skin to its normal state.
Hemp seed oil has been treasured for many centuries all over the world for its soothing and moisturizing quality. It has also been recognized to help nourish dry and aging skin, as well as treat eczema and psoriasis. Hemp seed oil has an ideal 3:1 ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids, perfectly mimicking the needs of the human body.
Bath Desserts has Gone Green! We are excited to introduce our new “green” line that will be available in May. We will offer hemp scrubs, lotions, peppermint lip balm, fizz balls and soy candles with hemp wicks. The products in our “green” line are scented with pure essential oils. Our new “green” line is available in unscented, lemongrass essential oil, tangerine sage essential oils and lavender essential oil. All of our products are handmade in the United States, are eco-friendly, contain no animal-derived ingredients and are not tested on animals. This new green line will be featured in Wickedly Chic during the week of August 7.
