Indie of the Week: Sofia Masri - March 20, 2008
Sofia Masri has been making jewelry and accessories out of porcelain, gemstones & pearls for the past six years. Her wicked shop, Sofia Masri highlights her handcrafted porcelain jewelry.
Seriously…every woman needs one of Sofia’s pieces as part of her jewelry collection. According to Sofia, “I make all porcelain components by hand-shaping, embossing, stamping, and sculpting with great care to ensure a quality product.”
“After drying, each piece is kiln fired to over 2000° F. Some pieces are then sanded, some go straight to glazing. I use commercially made glazes, lead free and even food safe! Glazed with three or more coats, the pieces are then ready for their final firing.”
“After they’re finished and glossy, I inspect each piece, weeding out those with flaws and imperfections. Each approved item is then carefully assembled, embellished, and ready for its photo shoot!”
“A recovering perfectionist, I’ve learned to love the handmade process. Every piece is slightly different, with its own character and quirks, making each one wonderfully unique.”
The piece featured here is a black & white porcelain medallion necklace. It’s ideal for any season…black & white is always fashionable.
Go ahead and take a look at Sofia’s shop today & add one of her beautiful pieces to your jewelry box.
