Indies of the Week: DaysOC/Whiff and Sniff - June 28
This column will return next week. A change in plans has led me to postpone what was supposed to be in this column this week. (sniff sniff). I was supposed to be visiting with Debbie from Gudonya & writing about it right here but I had to move it back for a few weeks.
I’m sure that you’ll agree that Whiff and Sniff is a darling name for a business, but even with a cute name, Whiff and Sniff takes their tart-making seriously. If you aren’t familiar with tarts, here’s a quick description. A tart is an intensely scented piece of wax that you place into a melter (with a tealight underneath) in order to have an amazing scent throw. You can also burn tarts in electric melters if you don’t want to have to worry about flames. If you are a wee bit ADD (and who isn’t these days), you’ll quickly become a fan of tarts because you can change them frequently rather than waiting for an entire candle to burn. Once the tart starts to smell like melted crayons, it’s time for a newbie.
Kimberlee Storie of Whiff and Sniff makes tarts exclusively which means that she has it down to an art. Using a mix of paraffin & soy, Ms. Storie makes some knock-out tarts with an ever-changing scent list. Some of my new favorites are Emerald City Cake (cinnamon, caramel, coffee & vanilla), Chamomile Melon, Honey Gardenia, Iced Iced Baby, She’s My Cherry Pie & Winter Candy Apple. Whiff and Sniff has an easy website to browse & constant sales so you’d better get on their mailing list. This independent biz is bound to be one of your new faves!
Meet jewelry designer Stephanie Shkolnik of Days OC. Just 19 years old, Stephanie already has two years of jewelry designing under her belt & her creations are fabulous. Her aim is to create dazzling one-of-a-kind pieces & she does that quite well. She tells Wickedly Chic that, “My objective in designing is to make each piece an eye catcher. I want my jewelry to pop to the naked eye.”. Personally, I like to stand out…I think it started in elementary school…so I really love the designs of Days OC.
Stephanie’s jewels have fans in the celebrity world as well. Her jewelry is currently being worn by Lindsay Lohan, Danna Devyn (the host of EXTRA) & Leeza Gibbons of Entertainment Tonight. These women have good taste!
