*Indie Shopping for the Wickedly Fashionable* - May 17

I was taken back to my days in elementary school in the 70’s this week. It seems that my suburban community is opening a spa…for young girls. Massages, pedis, manis…you name it…will be available for girls to be pampered. Is that not cool or what?

It took me back to sixth grade when all the rage was girls wearing boys sneakers. Sorry to all of the sixth grade girls that knew me back in the day…I thought those boys shoes were stupid. I wanted to wear plain old Keds…for girls. You know…the simple blue or white ones. However, I went with the crowd & wore the boys shoes. And they didn’t look so great. It just wasn’t “cool” to be a girly-girl.

Now that I am over 40 & have teenagers of my own, I am so happy that they are able to embrace being girls. And I have raised two girly-girls. They happily wear whatever strikes them & look adorable while they are doing it. And as for mom, I’m perfectly delighted in my red & white checked Keds…made for feminine feet!

Let’s meet our Reader of the Week. She is Merle O’Brien and she reads Wickedly Chic from her home in Aspen, CO.

Here’s Merle, “Hi, my name is Merle O’Brien, I live in Aspen, Colorado with my family. I have two amazing boys that love to watch “mommy” create, and help the Earth! My site OLovesM was born from an idea that came to me while in yoga class! (yes, I know I was suppose to be free of thoughts, but I just could not help myself!)”

“Being an Indie Designer myself, I love checking out other Indie sites, as well as how they got started. Taking a passion and talent and turning it into a reality is a wonderful thing! Being able to take the next step to make it all happen is something I admire, as I know personally taking that next step can be a big one!”

“Here are just a few indie sites, there are so many out there, and so many talented people—-all doing this out of inspiration, and love of creating!”

Berit Designs. Amazing style and mix of gems to create beautiful pieces. Fun to see someone leave the corporate world, travel and create.

Weekend Jewelry. Passion took over here! These are amazing, and to have a meaningful piece of jewelry to wear is always a good thing.

Liliputians. OK, this is when I wish I had girls! Beautiful and beautifully made clothing to fit all of us!

Growing Up with Style. Gotta love when moms get together and share a dream. Then to support other artists, this is a great mix of a beautiful thing!

Thanks Merle! Wickedly Chic loves you & I can’t wait to meet you this summer!
