Indie of the Week: Quaker Street Naturals - May 10

Indie of the Week is on a hiatus for this week (May 17, 2007). The business that we were going to be featuring is unable to be here this week but we have rescheduled them & will be back next week with another fabulous business.!

Some of the greatest candles come from one of my favorite towns, White Pigeon, Michigan.. I’m not sure why White Pigeon is one of my favorites…I’m pretty sure that I really like the name. My family drives through there often when going to visit friends & I like to call it “the Pidge”. Having nothing to do with birds, White Pigeon was named after an Indian chief. I just learned that this fall. Go figure!

Back to the candles and out of the history lesson. Quaker Street Naturals is the name of this week’s Indie of the Week & these candles are spectacular. By the way, these are soy candles which are friendly to farmers & the environment.

Here’s what Cindy Mann, one of the owners of this family business, has to say about Quaker Street. She says, “One of the things that we feel makes Quaker Street Naturals unique is the fact that we care about each and every product we make. We strive to have each one be excellent in all ways. By that, I mean that we try to have the strongest, most authentic scent throw. For example, if we say it is cucumber melon, we want you to be able to identify it and say, YES, that is definitely cucumber melon. We want to have the longest burning and the cleanest burning products. We studied long and hard before introducing our products to the general public so that we could be confident that we were offering a quality product. At the core of our business is the fact that we want to try and make everyone’s life more enjoyable and healthy. Sure, we want to sell our products because much of our profits go to support encouragement programs for the very elderly and for youth that are at risk of slipping through the “system”. On the other hand, we want to touch someone’s life and personally encourage them to enjoy life, not to let the rat race control you. We all feel that one terrific way to relax is to light up our favorite candle, inhale and relax!” Wow, I could not have said that better!

Quaker Street sent us lots of candles (and I mean lots) to try and we still haven’t made our way through all of them. But this is good news for our readers & for the Mann family, since we will be posting more products from Quaker Street in the Daily Ditties as we burn them.

These are some of the strongest wax products that I have burned. We’ve been burning their Hot Cocoa tarts all week & I’m tellin’ ya…strong and so chocolately and soothing! I love ‘em. We also love the tarts in Honey Coco Mango. That is a heavenly scent & wonderful for the warm weather.

Some of my other favorite scents from Quaker Street are Patchouli (note…this is a very authentic and true patchouli & even if you are not a patch fan, you might want to give it a try), Enchanted Sandalwood (beautiful), Cucumber Melon (summery and perfect) & Bamboo (which is their newest scent).

You can’t go wrong with any scents that you choose from Quaker Street. Cindy tells me that they are in the process of updating their gorgeous website so if you are interested in ordering tarts, you need to choose your scents and order the 2 oz. tin with a note that you wish tarts instead of a tin. Or you can email the friendly family and let them know what you need.

Create a wonderland in your home with these delicious candles!
