Indie of the Week: Flour City Bakery - March 22
Lovingly named after the city in which it is located, Flour City Bakery is a new kid on the block in the bath and body arena. However, owner Karley Mott is a veteran product maker & she has a unique angle in the bath and body market.
Karley spent a number of years working as a make-up artist and she found that she was always interested in the ingredients that actually went in the products. It seemed to her that there were a lot more ingredients than there needed to be and of course, most of them are foreign to the average consumer. Simple seemed better to her. Karley told Wickedly Chic, “It always bothers me when people assume you have to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on your beauty products. Since paring down, my skin has never looked or felt better. I think the cosmetics industry can mislead people into thinking they will look old and have bad skin if you do not try the latest fad. A fad is just that—a fad. If you look at other cultures, you will find treatments dating back centuries for skin care. It was said that Cleopatra used to bathe in buttermilk. Buttermilk has wonderful nourishing properties, and I add this to my bath bombs. You can spend $5 on 3 bath bombs, which is a modest price, but have a luxurious bath.”
The focus at Flour City Bakery is on natural products. None of the products from this indie biz contain any sulfates or parabens. You won’t find any harsh chemicals in Flour City products. Even their shampoo is made with gentle goat’s milk and no sulfates.
Shoppers will love that 90 percent of Flour City’s scents are Karley’s own custom blends. This ensures that unique scents are available. These will make you want to shop…how about Angie’s Delicious Triple Berry Cheesecake (blueberries, raspberries & strawberries blended in a cheesecake batter, baked over a vanilla wafer crust & topped with lemon cream), Bakery (cinnamon & spice, banana walnut bread, honey buns & blueberry scones) or La La Lavanilla (vanilla bean, french vanilla & pure vanilla with lavender)? The signature blend at Flour City is appropriately named “Scrumptious”. You will love this one. Dark cocoa, almond cookie, nutmeg & sweet orange are mixed in with warm honey and french vanilla. Yum! Just some of the amazing custom blends available at Flour City.
And the products? Choose from goat’s milk lotion, shampoo, perfumes, wax tarts, body butters, cold process soap, bath muffins, lip balm & much more. Karley is continually developing new products & scents and you will always find something unique and enticing at Flour City Bakery. Whatever you choose, you can be certain that it will be good for your body & soul. Besides that, shoppers are sure to adore the packaging!
Right now, there is a Spring Fling sale going on at Flour City where you can take advantage of some great pricing. In addition, our lovely Wickedly Chic readers will get an extra 15 percent off of all orders over $15.00 simply by using code chic15 through March 29. It’s time to shop at Flour City!
