Indie of the Week: Nico & Zoe - March 15
I’ve so enjoyed browsing through our Indie of the Week’s website & looking at all of the cool toys. It’s times like this when I wish that my girls were not teenagers & we could start playing with lots of toys again. But if you have young children, this store is for you. Meet Nico & Zoe, a Seattle-based specialty toy shop for choosy moms/dads and their darling babes.
College chums Pamela (mother of Zoe) & Stacy (mother of Nico) are the happy owners of Nico & Zoe and between them, they have years of retail and design experience. The full name of the business is Nico & Zoe Uncommon & Artisan Made Toys and these moms are working hard to load your playroom with unique toys.
Pamela loved classic toys with simple styles and was on a constant hunt to find lovely toys for her Zoe to play with. She also liked the style of Montessori & Waldorf toys. However, was finding it difficult to find exactly what she wanted so she paired up with Stacy and then two of them founded an online store carrying uncommon & artisan made toys…coming together as Nico & Zoe.
These moms “like the idea that someone worked to create an item for a child, they put their heart and soul into the idea and creating the toy. We feel that toys don’t need to be overly complicated to be fun.” They also try to keep the toys reasonably priced so that parents can find high-quality items at a price that doesn’t make you want to eat hot dogs for a month just to get great toys for your kids. Many of the toys are from small Northwest businesses.
As of this moment, Nico & Zoe’s stock is geared toward the infant through 6 set. In the future, they plan to expand into having their own showroom and also selling toys that are geared toward older children.
These are fabulous toys. I received one of their elephants & I can tell from this well-crafted toy that Pamela and Stacy are picking items that children will really love & want to play with. The elephants are made with really soft stuffed socks & the eyes are absolutely baby-proof. My thirteen year old was holding the elephant & kissing it & snuggling with it so you know that if an older child loves it then any child will.
It’s heart warming to find two parents who care so much about what their children & other people’s children are playing with and really keeping it simple. Love this amazing site & these terrific toys! Kudos to Nico & Zoe for another great indie business. It’s the only way to shop :)
