Fresh and Chic: Glitter Workshop/Elegant Bead

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I’m so pleased to be able to present our readers with a delightful and fun business just in time for Valentine’s Day. If you haven’t heard of the Glitter Workshop, the time is right now. Located in one of my most favorite cities, Madison, Wisconsin, you will find this funky shop selling and making some awesome retro goods. If you say retro, vintage or kitschy, I’m on it. Darling and sweet items are waiting for you to discover. Look at this adorable Valentine. It reminds me of the kind that I was given when I was growing up and still have tucked away in boxes.

One of the really cool things about the Glitter Workshop is the fun blog that they have to go with the site. You can actually read about things that are being worked on. Precious jewelry to touch your heart, adorable barrettes and pins for your hair and cards to make your loved ones smile all await you at the Glitter Workshop.

Thanks to the ultra-talented and quite stylish Cathy Begun of The Elegant Bead, we have the lowdown from Cathy on spring style. It’s time to think SPRING!

Feminine charm is continuing

Delicate blouses are featuring romantic styling with features of ruffles, bows, pintucked details, bubble sleeves, lace, eyelet and ruffles paired with sheer details together.

Pants – Wide leg trousers! – a clean, retro feel has emerged this season signaling a time to return to basics. A wide leg pant, a relaxed shirtdress and supple leather tote will complete the look. Bold stripes always look fresh in the spring.

Shoes – Wedges are looking lighter this spring with cutout details in the wedge. Flattering to legs, these are a spring favorite. Ballet flats are still hot with new textures such as snakeskin and woven leather with delicate bows.

Metallic – Silver is the metallic du jour! Not only for accessories; but silver shimmers in as well. For clothing, bronze and gold are still tres chic!

Dresses – Dresses are gathered at the hem for just a hint of pouf. Bows and rosettes add the details. When wearing a rosette, strategically place only one for a stunning look.

Jewelry – Express yourself in your favorite metal. Look for more delicate layers of gold chain. Lucite (clear) looks great with basic black for a sophisticated look. Striking statement pendant necklaces with gorgeous unusual stones look stunning by themselves. Pearls – always a classic with a twist and featured in the Elegant Bead collections.*

Handbags – Details! Details! Details! – Look for buckles, metallic, patent leather, snakeskin, twisted handles, chain or rouched sections with a monochromatic look. Hobo style, shoulder bags in leather or canvas or even a clutch for daytime! White is a crisp pop against dark winter hues and spring brights.

Color mix(es) – Sweet separates in pale mint, sky blue and soft khaki get an edge with a glimmering sheen. Add glam extras like a chunky-chain handle tote (Bazaar, January 2007). Also a stunning range of deep electric blue accented with chrome yellow and shocking fuchsia are hot colors!

Thanks again to Cathy for sharing her Spring Style Savvy with us and look for her Spring 2007 Collections coming soon. Meanwhile, shop the winter sale through March 3 at The Elegant Bead.
