Fresh and Chic: Weener Ware/Biggs & Featherbelle
Anyone ready to meet a couple of weeners? We’ve got some awfully nice weeners to introduce this week. Say hello to Barbara and Jeanmarie, two of the most fun weeners in Chicago. It’s time for all Wickedly Chic readers to become “weenerized.” Weenerization is the only way to go in 2007.
Barbara was kind enough to talk about how the Weeners came to be Weeners. “How did we start this ridiculous business? Well, Jean is a collage artist and I’m a painter (also incorporate collage into my work). We had an enormous stock pile of images – we save everything! Cards, magazines, old ads, matchbook covers, etc. etc… Jean had been doing some collage work in wooden cigar box lids, using resin on top. At that time she was working as a bartender at a banquet facility in the city. During a particularly boring wedding, she came up with the bright idea of putting images in bottle caps, then filling them with resin. I was the one who came up with the (tedious) idea of adding glitter.”
Really fun jewelry is the result of the creative efforts of both weeners and you can pick your favorite (out of a large and fun selection) and have it made into whatever piece that you happen to need.
“The one thing that has always been really important to us is the quality of our work. We wanted to make something really fun, really affordable and that would last. Our customers range from little kids who want to buy a birthday gift for their mother to brides who want gifts for their wedding party to trendy boutiques.”
“We’ve been doing this for about six years now, and have built up a bit of a reputation in Chicago. The people who attend the fairs, as well as the people who run them, refer to us simply as “The Weeners”. We love that. We get cards, letters and emails from people all the time (filed under Fanmail from Some Flounder). We received a note from one woman who told us that she got more compliments on her Weener Ware than she did on her diamond jewelry.”
Please, dear readers, this is not the time to resist purchasing your share of Weener Ware. Hop on board the weener train and get yourself and your wardrobe completely weenerized today! Make your personal statement to the world with your weener jewels.
I have a new love and it comes from a great bath and body company called Biggs & Featherbelle. This love comes in the form of a body butter bar and it is scented in soothing Ylang Ylang and Patchouli. How I love this bar. Nestled comfortably in its own private jar, you just pop it out and rub any dry spots away. Wow…this is sounding a bit racy…but Valentine’s Day is coming up so what the heck? This is an amazing invention and it is even on sale right now.
Sisters Kelly and Kasey Evick are the smarties behind Biggs & Featherbelle and they have created a lovely line of good for you products. All of their nurturing soaps have a “Bar” theme. Perfect for Valentine’s Day would be the Barlesque bar which is infused with pink kaolin clay, geranium & ylang ylang, hazelnut oil and patchouli. Swirled with pink, it is really a lovely soap. Equally enticing are the line of lip balms which will do a great job of moisturizing dry lippies. If you like products which are free from synthetic fragrances, dyes and additives, then Biggs & Featherbelle is definitely the place for you.
