Marissa Rojas has always been fascinated with Japanese culture as well as the arts laced within it. She is currently working toward a computer arts degree and once you’ve seen her graphic as well as craft designs, you can see that career success is inevitable. She has also been enthusiastic in pursuing personal studies of kimonos, Japanese embroidery, maiko & kanzashi. Marissa created her ETSY shop in effort to encourage the use & appreciation of such arts outside of Japan.
The Autumn Leaves Kanzashi is perfect for welcoming the fall season. You may ask “What is a Kanzashi?” The simple answer is that they are hair ornaments used in traditional Japanese hairstyles, but they are much more than that. Each of the 15 velvet leaves are hand-died and adorned with Swarovski crystals to create the appearance of water droplets. Only the finest silk embroidery floss is used to bind each branch. The intricate detail & hours of workmanship make this a true work of art. I strongly encourage taking the time to learn of the history & elements of Kanzashi as it is truly fascinating.

It was never a question whether or not Courtney Galler would pursue a life of artful innovations. She has always displayed a natural flare for design & received accolades for her artwork from such organizations as the Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens in Jacksonville, FL. She spent 6 years as a sales coordinator for a well-respect advertising firm & that only added to the skills required to run her successful business, Lila & Rain. It developed from Courtney’s desire to create jewelry designs that were lacking in the industry. She sought pieces that were rich in texture, high quality & offered fresh design concepts. In the spring of 2006 she revealed the Lila & Rain website to the world and hasn’t looked back.

She has always loved creating art & gifts for friends but it was after attending a workshop in 2002 where she made a simple pair of earrings that she was really hooked. A feature on her work appearing in ELLEGirl sparked such a positive response that designing her jewelry full-time was the next logical step. In order to stand out from the pack, Bakhitah has made it her mission to put out pieces that are modern yet timeless, while still focusing on top-notch customer service.

AllyMoon is created from a story similar to “The Little Engine That Could”. Owner and designer, Jacinta Sue, loved expressing herself at a young age through the art of drawing. Much to her dismay (& ours!) she was told that she couldn’t draw, but she did not let that stop her. She filled a book of drawings, which eventually became the blueprint for her AllyMoon creations. T-shirts are the specialty for the online shop but you can also find great playthings such as pocket mirrors and bottle openers.
