It’s a perfect time of year for Dark Candles. It seems like everyone starts to think candles as the darker seasons begin and Dark Candles is the place to start. With the exception of myself. I’m a candle addict who believes that candles belong in all seasons.
The lovely Helena Jones is the owner of Dark Candles and she started making candles about four years ago. She wanted to create unique scents that would remind people of autumn all year long. That’s one of the greatest things about these indie businesses. Everyone has their niche.
Dark Candles has some of the loveliest and most extraordinary scents that you can imagine and the strength of these beauties is wonderful. Two of my favorite scents are Full Moon and Dark Grove. The Full Moon is a wonderfully spicy vanilla and the Dark Grove smells to me like a deep forest. Helena says that this one has a cinnamon undertone and she certainly may be correct. You mustn’t miss the Forest Breeze scent which is a mix between the meadow and the forest. Refreshing!
I love finding out what inspires our wonderful independent businesses and Helena gave a great answer. She shared with Wickedly Chic that “When I’m creating a new scent, I will imagine the place or the character or the time period I’m trying to embody with fragrance. Then I’ll add various ingredients as I see fit until the scent is in sync with the scene I have in my imagination. It’s an art! And the process is pretty similar to an artist or a musician who sees the piece in their head and then draws it or creates the music. Scent is also one of my favorite of the five senses! Ever smelled something and you remember exactly where it was that you smelled it last? Or it will remind
you or someone? There are certain scents that can create very powerful feelings and emotions and I think that is extraordinary!”
I spoke further with Helena about the different products that Dark Candles offered that our discerning readers need to know about. She says that “Dark Candles sells large pillar candles, traditional votive candles, decorative tealite candles, scented wax melts, simmering oils, body care products, and candle holders. All of the candles are available in dark colors (obviously!) and also bone white. The standard line of scents consists of 32 unique fragrances and unscented is also available. Right now, just for Halloween, we have 4 additional Halloween scents (for a total of 8!) available until the end of October. We carry our regular 4 standard Halloween fragrances all year long. And coming up soon, our Dark Holiday collection will be available in time for the holidays! The Dark Holiday scents will include Midnight Mass, Naughty or Nice, Vintage Spice, and I haven’t yet decided if I’m going to do Spiked Egg Nog or Winter Solstice for the fourth scent. They are all deeee-lish!” I am so excited to place an order for the Dark Holiday collection. They sound awesome!!
