Indie of The Week: Moondrop Clothiers*MOONDROP ![]() It is so exciting to present Moondrop Clothiers to our Wickedly Chic readers. Sarah (the owner of Moondrop) did such an amazing job of explaining the concept behind Moondrop Clothiers. When I asked Sarah what her thoughts were when creating Moondrop, she says, “Having vast retail experience from customer to corporate, I wanted to create an awareness of the impact our “throw-away” shopping choices can have on the environment and the less fortunate people of the world. Moondrop Clothiers LLC, a one woman-owned, web-only operation, was established in January 2003 to help fulfill the need for responsible commerce in today’s world. Our mission is to encourage people to feel and look beautiful, be comfortable, and remain stylish while supporting and sustaining Mother Earth at the same time. In essence, Moondrop Clothiers LLC is an earth-friendly as well as socially-conscious business that truly cares for the consumer AND those who created our products in the first place.”
Sarah went on to tell me, “Although we are not crafters ourselves, we strongly support independent art and showcase handmade goods from artists across the U.S. We are also proud to offer authentic Fair Trade global goods as a viable buying alternative to our customers. Each beautiful piece is individually handcrafted by talented craftspeople from around the world and supports low-income artisans and their families by providing sustainable employment opportunities, safe working conditions, and a fair wage.”
This is such a fabulous concept and one that I am sure that many Wickedly Chic would be interested in. But where to shop? Moondrop offers many terrific and stylish items for sale. This great store sells recycled, handmade, gently-worn, and brand-new clothing, accessories, sterling silver and gold artisan jewelry, indie designer handbags, home decor items, sustainable market bags, hemp products and fair trade global products. What a great place to shop!!!
I asked Sarah if Moondrop would be carrying any new items in the fall and she told me, “In the fall, we will be featuring authentic individually handmade (not mass-produced!) decorative pottery (vases, jars, wind chimes, large figurines, candle holders) from San Juan de Oriente, Nicaragua. The potters use mineral oxides, mainly chrome, cobalt, and iron to color the vases, then fire them at low temperatures in brick kilns. The results are beautiful and the proceeds are beneficial to the artisans of the San Juan de Oriente community.”
Moondrop has recently acquired another site. This one is called The Conscious Child. The Conscious Child has some similarities to Moondrop. Gently loved and brand new organic clothing for children will be available as well as fair trade children’s clothing and toys, educational art supplies for kids and cloth diapers.
Another awesome thing that Sarah would like Wickedly Chic readers to know is that “Moondrop Clothiers LLC is considered a Green Business that fully operates in an environmentally-friendly and people-oriented manner. We continually reduce our environmental impact in all aspects of our business from our eco-conscious office supplies to our wind-powered web host. We were recently inducted into the Co-op America Business Network (CABN), the original socially-responsible business network, stamped with a Seal of approval, and given a spot in their National Green Pages.” Shop till you drop at Moondrop!
